Often times many sites that claim to be for the enlighten of people of color or people in general come from angle of two sides and are hypocritical. Trying To Earn A Living

I am writing this because the past months have been difficult, I try to have positive thoughts about life, but I am having doubts it has always been my dream to earn a living from my art but I am finding it that people do not take my art seriously and often times think that what I do sucks and does not have enough skill level for it to be compensated. Lets face it I am 37 years old and work doing retail doing a six day work week. I am tired of my current job and want to do my art full-time on the flip side my mother took sick so I am now put in a position to take care of her so I am living at home with my mom. I feel like a loser who has big dreams with my talent but the world does not see my skills and yes I have done freelance work only for theses so-called opportunities to fall through. I am becoming discourage and starting to feel that I will never be able to earn a living as an artist. A lot of people keep telling me "you should not do it for the money" or "artist only make it when they are dead and gone", or "you need to be more commercial" and that is not going to happen, damn it would be nice to know that my talent has merit. Believe me I have sent postcards after postcards of my art samples to various industries only to go on dead ears. I often question why the universe gave me a talent that has no purpose.

I Don't Illustrate for Free

I am writing this entry because too often friends and associates and potential customers interested in my work
want me to do thumbnails,roughs and final work for free. The answer to that is NO I take pride in what I do and
put a lot of work in to developing daily my craft, so it comes to me as an insulate for one to expect me to create
solid illustrations with only a thank you attach. I clearly understand that we are living in some serious economic
times, but I see people spend their money on all types of foolish desires. No one has a problem paying $80 to $125
for a baseball ticket, seeing a guy hit a ball with a piece of wood but you want me to do a commission for $10
I don't think so, please I have bills to pay and a elderly parent to take care of I know I am not the best artist in
the world but I have talent and feel it should be compensated when work is completed and issued. So to all
who are looking for an artist they can take advantage of I am not that artist. However if you respect the work
that you see on my site and on this blog then by all means we can do business.

I know that people rarely take the time to frequent this blog, but theses couple of years have been trying
as a creative person who strives hard to get ones work noticed in the eyes of art directors and art buyers
it is becoming obvious that the industry wants cookie cutter type illustrations where a majority of illustrators
imitate and copy popular artist styles to earn a quick buck. While unique and creatively compelling artist get
over looked and passed over for trendy styles and gimmicks. All you people out there who call yourself
appreciators of art are full of shit, because graffiti,comic illustrators and other forms of low brow art should
and will deserve equal representation.

To all Artist and Illustrators who take the time to develop your own unique voice all props and praises to you,
and regardless of what the art directors, art critics and so-called art buyers say KEEP DOING YOU AND THE
HELL WITH EVERYONE WHO DOES NOT SUPPORT INDEPENDENT ARTISTS .
